How it compares
Compared to soft-sided carriers like the Kurgo G-Train, the Maxine One offers a more structured frame that prevents the dog from shifting during steep climbs. It also outperforms budget sling carriers by providing full back support and a padded hip belt for the wearer.
What to know before buying
- Measure your dog's length from base of neck to base of tail—the carrier fits a maximum 18-inch back length.
- Check airline size restrictions if you plan to fly; the Maxine One meets most carry-on dimensions.
- Break in the carrier on short walks before attempting a full-day hike to let your dog acclimate.
- The hip belt is removable, but using it dramatically improves load distribution for longer treks.
"We took this on a 6-mile hike in the Rockies and our 22-lb terrier mix was comfortable the whole time. The ventilation is excellent and the padding on the shoulder straps made a huge difference." — Verified buyer
Sustainability & ethics
The Maxine One is made from a durable canvas blend that uses recycled polyester in the mesh panels. Packaging is 100% recyclable and FSC-certified. Maxine holds B Corp certification and supports trail maintenance nonprofits.
Pro tip
For hot-weather hikes, wet the mesh panels with water before setting out—evaporative cooling will keep your dog comfortable for over an hour.
