Key features & specs

How it compares

Compared to standard soft-sided carriers, the Argo offers a higher weight limit and better back support. Unlike wheeled carriers, it's suitable for rugged trail terrain. It competes with other large dog hiking backpacks from brands like Kurgo and Pecute but stands out for its 50-lb capacity.

What to know before buying

1. Weigh and measure your dog to ensure they fit within the 50-lb capacity and length limit.
2. Adjust the sternum strap and hip belt for a stable carry on uneven ground.
3. Use the internal tether clip to attach to a harness, not a collar, for safety.
4. Check the mesh panels for tears after each hike, especially in brushy areas.
5. Store the carrier in a dry place to prolong the life of the nylon fabric.

“I carry my 45-lb shepherd mix on hikes up to 8 miles with this pack. It's comfortable and he loves the view from the side mesh windows.” — Verified buyer

Sustainability & ethics

Traveler's Choice uses durable materials to extend product life and reduce waste. The company is Leaping Bunny certified and does not test on animals. The packaging is minimal and recyclable, but the synthetic materials are not biodegradable. The brand is working toward more recycled content in future designs.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Traveler's Choice Argo pet backpack worth it?

Yes, it is an excellent value for large-dog owners because it offers a 50-lb capacity with ergonomic support at a mid-range price.

Does this backpack fit under an airplane seat?

No, it is too large for most airline carry-on restrictions — use it primarily for hiking and road travel, not air travel.

Can I use it for dogs over 50 lbs?

No, the 50-lb limit is a maximum safety guideline — exceeding it can compromise comfort and safety for both you and your dog.

How does the Argo compare to a pet sling?

The Argo provides full back support and even weight distribution across both shoulders, while a sling concentrates weight on one side and is less stable on trails.

Is the Argo machine washable?

Spot clean only; the nylon fabric can be wiped with mild soap and water, but machine washing could damage the frame and padding.
