Key features & specs

How it compares

Unlike the Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo Bowl which focuses on slowing eating, the Dog Twister Puzzle is a pure enrichment toy that requires active problem-solving. It's more complex than the Trixie Activity Flip Board but simpler than the Nina Ottosson Tornado, making it a mid-level gateway puzzle.

What to know before buying

1. Start by showing your dog how the discs slide and the covers lift before expecting them to solve it independently.
2. Use high-value, smelly treats to encourage initial engagement.
3. Supervise the first few sessions to ensure your dog doesn't chew on the plastic discs.
4. Wash by hand with warm soapy water — not dishwasher safe.
5. Rotate with other puzzles to maintain novelty and challenge.

"My border collie solved the beginner puzzle in two minutes flat. The Nina Ottosson Dog Twister Puzzle took her about two weeks to master, but she still loves playing with it. Great build quality." — Verified buyer

Frequently asked questions

Is the Nina Ottosson Dog Twister Puzzle suitable for small dogs?

Yes, this puzzle is suitable for small dogs as well as medium and large breeds. The sliding discs are easy to operate for both small paws and larger heads.

Can this puzzle be used for feeding meals instead of treats?

Yes, you can portion out your dog's entire meal into the compartments for a full mealtime puzzle. Use dry kibble or freeze wet food into the covers for a longer challenge.

How does it compare to the Nina Ottosson Tornado puzzle?

The Dog Twister is considered easier than the Tornado. The Twister has sliding discs and flip covers, while the Tornado adds spinning layers and more complex manipulation.

Is the plastic safe if my dog chews on it?

The high-density polypropylene is food-safe and non-toxic, but it is not indestructible. If your dog is a heavy chewer, supervise play and replace if any pieces become sharp or break off.

What is the best way to clean this puzzle?

Hand wash with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly — do not put it in the dishwasher. Air dry completely before storing to prevent mold.
