How it compares
When compared to traditional sisal poles or carpeted scratching posts, the District 70 Sardine offers a more inviting texture for cats that prefer horizontal or slightly curved scratching surfaces. Unlike vertical towers that can be unstable, this floor-based unit provides a low center of gravity that prevents tipping during vigorous use.
What to know before buying
- Place the scratcher in a high-traffic area where your cat naturally likes to lounge or mark territory.
- Monitor for cardboard flakes, which are a natural byproduct of the scratching process but easily vacuumed.
- The interior space is best suited for small to medium-sized breeds; larger cats may primarily use the exterior.
- Avoid placing the unit in damp areas, as moisture can compromise the integrity of the corrugated layers.
"My cat immediately claimed this as his new favorite nap spot, and the cardboard has held up much longer than cheaper grocery store versions." — Verified buyer
Sustainability & ethics
District 70 emphasizes circular design by utilizing FSC Certified recycled cardboard and non-toxic, vegan-friendly cornstarch glue. By avoiding synthetic dyes and plastics, the brand ensures the product is fully biodegradable at the end of its lifecycle, reducing landfill waste significantly compared to plastic-based pet toys.
Pro tip
Sprinkle a small amount of organic catnip into the corrugated grooves to encourage your cat to transition from your sofa to the scratcher faster.
