Key features & specs

How it compares

Compared to basic rubber treat balls or simple slow-feeder bowls, this Outward Hound puzzle offers multi-step engagement that challenges dogs cognitively. It stands apart from single-layer dispensers by requiring dogs to nudge, slide, and uncover treats across three tiers. Other popular options like the Potaroma Dog Puzzle Toy focus on one level, whereas the Lickin' Layers provides escalating difficulty for seasoned puzzle solvers.

How to use it

1. Fill each of the three tiers with a mix of dry kibble, treats, or peanut butter.
2. Slide the layers closed and ensure the locking mechanisms are secure.
3. Place the puzzle on a non-slip surface and let your dog interact under supervision.
4. Start with the top layer easiest to remove and gradually increase difficulty.
5. Clean after each use by rinsing with warm water or placing in the dishwasher.
6. Rotate with other toys to maintain novelty and prevent boredom.

"My Lab mix usually inhales her food in 30 seconds, but with the Lickin' Layers she spends 15 minutes working for her treats. Her digestion has improved and she seems happier." — Verified buyer
