Key features & specs

How it compares

Unlike traditional plastic mechanical pencils or standard wood pencils that end up in landfills, SproutWorld products are fully biodegradable and circular. While bamboo pencils offer sustainability in sourcing, they rarely offer the secondary life-cycle benefit of seed germination. This set stands out against standard seasonal multi-pack gifts by providing a tangible experience rather than a disposable commodity.

What to know before buying

1. The pencils must be sharpened like any standard wooden pencil using a regular sharpener.
2. Do not bite or chew on the green seed capsule at the end, as moisture can trigger premature germination.
3. When the pencil becomes too short to write with, plant it in soil at a slight angle with the capsule barely covered.
4. Ensure the pot receives plenty of sunlight and regular water to help the seeds sprouts within 1-3 weeks.
5. The graphite core is lead-free and safe for use in home gardens.

Sustainability & ethics

SproutWorld maintains a rigorous commitment to ethical manufacturing. Every pencil is made from FSC-certified wood, ensuring it comes from responsibly managed forests. The brand utilizes non-toxic graphite and a plant-based capsule, ensuring that even if the product isn't planted, it will break down naturally. Because the pencils are produced locally in Europe and the USA for their respective markets, the carbon footprint associated with shipping is significantly reduced.
