Key features & specs

How it compares

When compared to traditional plastic mechanical pencils or standard yellow wood pencils, Sprout Pencils offer a circular economy benefit that most stationery lacks. Unlike typical recycled plastic pens that still eventually end up in a landfill, SproutWorld products are designed to disappear into the earth. They compete favorably with eco-friendly art kits by providing a dual-use function: a high-quality writing instrument followed by a beginner-friendly gardening experience.

What to know before buying

1. Use the pencil as you normally would for writing, sketching, or shading until it becomes a short stub.
2. Plant the stub at a slight angle in a pot with moist, nutrient-rich soil, ensuring the seed capsule is just covered.
3. Place the pot in a sunny location and water regularly to keep the soil damp but not soaked.
4. Expect to see germination within one to three weeks depending on the specific seed variety included.
5. Ensure you do not bite or chew on the end of the pencil, as moisture can trigger premature capsule dissolution.
