Key features & specs

How it compares

Against other top brand air purifiers in the same price tier, the Winix 5500-2 offers a higher CADR rating than many similarly priced units from Honeywell and Blueair. Its washable carbon filter saves money over replacement packs, making it a lower long-term cost option compared to brands that require disposable activated carbon filters every three months.

What to know before buying

1. Measure your room size — the 5500-2 is rated for up to 360 sq ft, so larger open-concept spaces may need two units.
2. The washable AOC carbon filter should be vacuumed every 3 months; replace only every 12-18 months depending on odor levels.
3. The True HEPA filter must be replaced once a year (light will flash when due).
4. Place the unit at least 12 inches from walls for proper airflow.
5. Use the Auto mode for best balance of noise and efficiency — the sensor is responsive but conservative.
