How it compares
Unlike traditional horizontal wall shelves, the Story system creates a vertical column of items that draws the eye upward, making ceilings feel higher. It is significantly more durable than plastic-based modular units and offers a cleaner, more refined silhouette than industrial wire shelving found in hardware stores.
What to know before buying
- Each shelf can be rotated to face different directions for a sculptural look.
- The unit must be securely bolted to the wall to prevent tipping once fully loaded with heavy books.
- The powder-coated steel is highly resistant to scratching.
- Cleaning is simple with a damp cloth; no specialized wood cleaners are required.
"It truly looks like a tower of books is floating against the wall. It's the most talked-about piece in my studio apartment." — Verified buyer
Sustainability & ethics
Produced by DWR (a MillerKnoll brand), the Story Bookcase Wall is crafted in facilities with high labor standards and is made from highly recyclable steel. Steel is one of the most circular materials available in 2026, and the powder-coating process is designed to minimize the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to traditional liquid paints.
Pro tip
Stack your largest, heaviest books at the bottom of the unit to lower the center of gravity and enhance visual stability.
