Key features & specs

How it compares

Compared to the standard Mila HEPA filter and the Mila Smoke & Odor filter, the Critter Cuddler variant has a denser carbon layer and an added antimicrobial treatment. It outperforms generic replacement filters (like those from Blueair or Honeywell) in pet-specific odor control, but it only works inside the Mila ecosystem — you cannot use it in another brand's purifier.

What to know before buying

1. This filter is only compatible with the Mila Air Purifier (both the original and the second-generation Mila).
2. For pet odors, run the Mila on Auto or Boost mode for at least 6 hours daily for best results.
3. The antimicrobial coating is non-toxic and safe for pets and humans.
4. Dispose of the old filter in the cardboard box Mila sends for recycling — request a recycling label from their website.
5. Order a replacement filter at least 2 weeks before the app indicates expiration to avoid a gap.

Sustainability & ethics

Mila designs all filters in San Francisco and manufactures them in China. The company offers a free recycling program for used filters — you mail them back in the same box the new filter arrived in, and they recycle the components. Mila is a certified B Corp (2020) and a public benefit corporation, which means they track their environmental and social impact. The filter uses post-consumer recycled cardboard for packaging and is Leaping Bunny certified (no animal testing).

Frequently asked questions

Is the Critter Cuddler filter worth it for non-pet owners?

No, it is not worth it for homes without pets — the standard Mila HEPA filter is more cost-effective and works just as well for dust and pollen.

Does this filter eliminate litter box odors?

Yes, it helps reduce litter box smells significantly when the Mila is placed in the same room, but it will not fully mask a strong, uncleaned box — clean the box first.

How does the Critter Cuddler filter compare to the Smoke & Odor Mila filter?

The Smoke & Odor filter has a thicker carbon layer for strong smoke (like wildfire or cigarette smoke), while the Critter Cuddler adds an antimicrobial layer for biological odor and dander from pets.

Can I wash or vacuum the Critter Cuddler filter to extend its life?

No, this filter is not washable — vacuuming the outer surface can reduce performance. Replace it when the app shows 10% life remaining.

How long does shipping take for a replacement filter?

Standard shipping is 5-7 business days within the continental US. Mila offers a subscription service with free shipping and a 10% discount on filters.
