How it compares
Unlike most vertical mice that cap out at 1000Hz polling and use office-grade sensors, the Keychron M5 8K matches the performance of top-tier gaming mice like the Razer Viper V2 Pro but in an ergonomic vertical form. The thumb wheel gives it an edge over the Logitech MX Vertical for productivity workflows, while the 8000Hz wireless mode puts it in a class of its own for competitive gaming.
What to know before buying
- User with small hands may find the M5 too large; Keychron offers a smaller M3 vertical model for comparison.
- The 8000Hz mode uses more battery and is only for users with a high-refresh-rate monitor (144Hz+).
- Software (Keychron Engine) is available for Windows and macOS, but Linux support is limited to basic functions.
- The thumb wheel can be programmed for horizontal scrolling, zoom, or custom shortcuts in supported apps.
- Bluetooth mode uses a lower polling rate (1000Hz) for longer battery life but still outperforms many office mice.
"I never thought I could game competitively with a vertical mouse until I tried the Keychron M5. The 8000Hz polling is real—I win more firefights now and my wrist doesn't hurt anymore." — Verified buyer
Sustainability & ethics
Keychron packages the M5 in FSC-certified cardboard with soy-based inks, avoiding plastic foam and shrink wrap. The brand is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free with no animal testing. While Keychron is not B Corp certified, they maintain a transparent supply chain with factory audits. The mouse uses only synthetic materials and is fully recyclable at end of life through e-waste programs.
Pro tip
For the best wireless performance, use the included USB-C to USB-A dongle rather than Bluetooth when gaming. Also, update the firmware via Keychron Engine to unlock the full 8000Hz mode (some early units shipped with a software lock).
Frequently asked questions
Is the Keychron M5 8K good for FPS games?
