How it compares
Compared to synthetic rugs like polypropylene or nylon options, the Safavieh jute rug is more sustainable but less soft underfoot. It also competes with other natural-fiber rugs such as seagrass and sisal, offering a warmer tone and slightly softer texture.
What to know before buying
- Measure your room to ensure the 8x10 size fits without excessive overlap.
- Use a rug pad to prevent slipping and reduce wear on the jute fibers.
- Avoid placing in humid areas, as jute can absorb moisture and develop mildew.
- Vacuum regularly with a suction-only setting to avoid pulling fibers.
- Expect some shedding initially; this is normal for natural jute rugs.
"I was looking for a non-toxic rug for my kids' playroom. This Safavieh jute rug is sturdy, looks beautiful, and was a great value. No chemical smell at all!" — Verified buyer
Sustainability & ethics
The jute is sourced from renewable plants and is biodegradable at end of life. Packaging is made from recycled materials. Safavieh is a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council and sources its jute from fair-trade certified farms in India.
Pro tip
To extend the life of your jute rug, rotate it every 6 months and blot spills immediately with a dry cloth—never scrub, as that can damage the fibers.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Safavieh jute rug safe for pets?
Yes, it is safe for pets because it uses no synthetic dyes or chemicals, but be aware that some cats may scratch at the natural fibers.
Does this rug work on carpet?
It can be placed on low-pile carpet but a rug pad is still recommended to keep it from sliding.
How does Safavieh jute compare to seagrass?
