Key features & specs

How it compares

Compared to standard grocery store orchids, UrbanStems' kit uses organic bark and fair-trade practices, and the ceramic pot is far more durable than plastic sleeves. Unlike comparable Mother's Day plant kits such as the VAHDAM tea advent calendar, this orchid offers a living, blooming gift that can rebloom annually. It competes with the LEGO Botanicals Orchid but offers a real, living plant instead of a plastic build.

What to know before buying

1. Orchids need bright, indirect light—an east- or north-facing window is ideal.
2. Water with three ice cubes once a week to avoid overwatering; this method is proven for phalaenopsis.
3. After blooming, cut the flower spike above a node to encourage a second bloom.
4. Repot every 1–2 years with fresh orchid bark to prevent root rot.
5. Keep away from cold drafts and ripening fruit, which emit ethylene and shorten bloom life.

“The orchid arrived in perfect condition with two open blooms and buds ready to open. My mom was thrilled—it's now the centerpiece of her living room.” — Verified buyer

Sustainability & ethics

UrbanStems sources orchids from US greenhouses that use organic bark and refrain from synthetic growth hormones. Fair Trade certification ensures ethical wages for growers. The Leaping Bunny logo confirms no animal testing in any part of the supply chain. Packaging is 100% recyclable and the ceramic pot can be reused for other plants.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Mother's Day Orchid Kit by UrbanStems worth the price?

Yes, it is a premium kit that offers a mature, blooming orchid in a ceramic pot that would cost more if purchased separately. The organic and fair-trade certifications add value for conscious buyers.

How long does the orchid bloom last?

Typically, each flowering cycle lasts 3–6 months, and the plant can rebloom annually with proper care. This makes it a long-term gift, not a one-week arrangement.

Does this orchid require special fertilizer?

Any balanced orchid fertilizer (20-20-20) applied monthly during growth season works well; avoid fertilizing while in bloom.

Can I choose the pot color?

The pot color is selected at random from matte white or blush pink, though you can note a preference in checkout and UrbanStems will try to accommodate.

How does it compare to a cut flower bouquet for Mother's Day?

A live orchid lasts months instead of days, and this kit is priced similarly to a high-end bouquet, making it a more sustainable choice.
